What to see in Voinitsa

What to see in Voinitsa

The traditional festival day in Voinitsa has been 14th of August. Nowadays the village festival is not organized every year.

The Orthodox village chapel of Voinitsa has been erected again in the same place where the leaning chapel was according to an old photograph by I. K. Inha from 1894.

After talking with Vaassila, Lönnrot got the idea of shaping the poems he had collected into an epic instead of publishing them as separate, thematically arranged collections.
The monument was designed by Martti Aiha, a sculptor and member of the Kieleväinen family. The monument was erected by the Kalevala Society and the Karelian Cultural Society

On the bank was the rune-singer's, Ontrei Malinen´s house and an old Orthodox chapel. It was from here that I. K. Inha photographed the "most northwestern part of Yläkuittijärvi Lake", the leaning Orthodox chapel, and Vaasila Kieleväinen's house on the other side of the strait.
