Visitors may visit the village History Museum or take a walk in the company of a guide, who will introduce them to Singing Voknavolok.

Traditions are still strong in the village. You will definitely hear the Karelian language (especially the Karelian dialect) and will be able to add to your vocabulary.

Master classes

The House of the Village has a weaver’s workshop where you can learn the intricacies of weaving or order a colourful Karelian rug.

The master class on making a talisman doll will leave neither children nor adults indifferent. These are special dolls not meant to be played with.

You can learn new Karelian traditional recipes in cooking master classes. At the top of the list, the making of Karelian kalitki, open pies with filling. «An eight is required for kalitka, «said the Karelian craftswomen. Exactly that many ingredients should be mixed. But only Karelian housewives know what these ingredients are and what their proportions should be. Master classes are concluded with a tea-party.

You can also order tea or coffee with baked goods.

There is a workshop in the village in which the ancient Karelian instrument, the kantele, is made. These plucked stringed instruments are reminiscent of Russian gusli, but they have their own special features. These are not simple kanteles made in Voknavolok. Each instrument is a copy of Ontrei Malinen’s kantele. The original instrument served its master Ontrei when he sang ancient Karelian lore to E. Lönnrot. The lines of this lore were recorded in the pages of his epic work, Kalevala, and enriched the treasury of the world’s literature.
